Chad and Sara were such a fun couple to work with. They were recently engaged and decided that their trip to Maui would be a perfect time to capture some fun engagement photos. The couple met when Chad was a client of Sara's at her day spa. She refused to date him for the longest time because he was a client, but after much persistence on Chad's part, she finally gave in. It is a good thing she did, because now they are going to be married!! Sara and Chad chose Maui's Makena coast for their location, we started out at secret cove and then made our way to my favorite Southside beach for the sunset. The light was perfection and weather could not have been better! Congrats to you both and thank you for choosing me to capture your Maui engagement portraits.

Making a Wish In Maui - Bradford Family Maui Portrait Session by Maui Photographer Steven Hill

The Bradford Family came to Maui for their son Kale's Make a Wish Foundation trip all the way from New Orleans.

Kale was diagnosed with childhood leukemia when he was just 22 months and he is now 5 years old; so it has been a long battle for the whole family. Melanie, Kale's mom, said he is doing much better now and that they were so thankful to Make a Wish Foundation for making the trip possible. You could really tell how close the family was and we got some wonderful photos of them while at Baby Beach in Lahaina.

Rachel is such a cool chick. Not only is she adorable and stylish, she is tough. She wants to be a cop in Las Vegas when she grows up and I can see her doing it! Rachel and her family were visiting Maui from Iowa, where all of her friends have their senior portraits taken in the cornfields. While I am sure that can be very pretty, I think it is cool that Rachel will be the only girl in her graduating class with the Pacific ocean in the background instead :) Mahalo to Rachel and her family for choosing me to capture her senior portraits!

The Merrimen family was visiting from Illinois here for the New Year holiday. Lighting at Southside beach was perfect the night of their photo shoot. The kids were full of energy and very well behaved, but really excited to get home as they left for vacation the day after christmas and hadn't got to play with their toys yet.

The two boys had lots of fun playing on the beach and looking for shells, but the Lilly, their little girl just wanted drum on anything she could find. She got a drum set for christmas and that is all she could think about.

Thanks for the letting me take pictures of your beautiful family, I hope to see you back in Maui soon.

Gun-Britt and Gert came all the way from Sweden to get married on the beautiful beaches of Maui. They met after Gert posted an ad on Match.com and Gun-Britt's mother finally convinced her to answer the ad.

Two of Gun-Britt and Gert's close friends made the trip from Sweden for the wedding. Thank goodness they came, because Gert surprised Gun-Britt with notes from their children and it was all written in Swedish, which none of us knew how to read, so their friends stepped in and became a part of their ceremony. It was a very touching and emotional reading.

It was a beautiful ceremony at Lahaina Shores beach, with gorgeous lighting making it hard for me to choose just a few images for this preview.

The Shin family was visiting from San Jose and decided their Maui trip would be a great time to get some portraits for their family and their soon to be 1 year old adorable little boy. I met them at my favorite southside beach on a beautiful Maui winters morning. It was just the right temperature, the lighting was perfectly diffused by the clouds in front of the sun and the beach was near empty. I just LOVE winters in Maui! This was such a special wedding, I am so happy that Katie and Stanton found us and invited us to be a part of it! I met Katie at her hotel where she was getting ready with Adiel from Salon 253, who in addition to being an amazing stylist, is also a great friend of mine. I felt like Adiel and I had known Katie for much longer than a day as we talked, laughed and cried together about Katie and Stanton's amazing story. I wish I had the story the way Katie told it on video so I could share it with everyone, it is straight out of a Hollywood romantic comedy. Single dad hires a tutor for his daughter, who turns out to be a beautiful teacher on summer break, they fall in love slowly but are both too shy to say something. Adorable kid brings the two together along with a little help from a special angel watching over them. I would so go see their story in the movie theater! Even better, it has that perfect happy ending with a wedding on the beach in Hawaii.

The ceremony was amazing and the light was a photographers dream. After the ceremony there were whales frolicking off shore and we were blessed with a beautiful perfect sunset. It really could not have been a more perfect evening. Thank you Katie and Stanton for choosing Simple Maui Wedding, we are just thrilled to have been a part of your very special story!

One of the things that we like about this location is the lighting here is often soft and filtered, making for a soft and dreamy look to the portraits. I "met" the Williams family last year online when we were looking for a nice place to stay in Hana. I found their lovely vacation rental called Kawika's Hill and it looked just perfect for a relaxing family weekend in Hana. I would highly recommend it if you like sitting in a hot tub watching the ocean while a soft breeze floats by bringing the sweet smells of the rainforest with it. If you like hearing geckos chirp at night as you barbeque on a huge deck or enjoy being a short drive from epic beaches and home made coconut ice cream, you will love this place! I know we can't wait to return, as soon as our youngest is sleeping through the night! The Williams were visiting Maui with the family all in one place for the first time in a long time, so it was the perfect opportunity for some family portraits. We met for a sunset session at Po'olenalena beach and I had a fantastic time finally meeting them in person and getting to know a bit about this lovely family. Mahalo Williams family for a great evening and for an amazing stay in your Hana house!!

I can't remember what made them crack up, but I am glad I caught it, what a happy family!

I met the Barthel Family on an unusually cloudy/overcast day in South Maui. It was so nice to have the cool cloud cover and soft light for their portrait session. Two years later they were back in Maui with another addition to the family and wanted to continue the tradition of having their family portraits taken on the beach they were married on. I was so happy to hear from them again and have the chance to document their lovely little family. Besides our shared love for Maui, I also share an Alma matter with the them, it is always awesome to work with fellow Cougs! I am looking forward to seeing you guys again in a few years! :)
